Keke Palmer is an actress prominent for her role in ‘Akeelah and the Bee’ and ‘Barbershop 2: Back in Business’. She has also pursued a career in singing releasing singles such as, ‘Keep It Moving' and an album titled, ‘So Uncool’ that emerged rank 85 on the R&B Chart.

Early Life

Keke Palmer is a daughter of parents Sharon and Larry Palmer born on August 26, 1993, in Harvey Illinois. Palmer had her first singing role in church but earned her exposure during a stage show at Chicago’s tourist destination. She auditioned for ‘The Lion King’ at the age of nine.

Career

Keke Palmer had her first filming role in 2004, in ‘Barbershop 2: Back in Business’ with a leading role as the niece of Queen Latifah. She moved to California to pursue her singing career where she participated in ‘American Juniors’ in 2003.

Additionally, she signed a deal with Atlantic Records followed by her first performance with a single titled, ‘All My Girlz’ in 2005. During the same year, she appeared in a television film titled, ‘Knights of the South Bronx’ and starred in ‘Second Time Around’ and ‘ER.' She also signed a deal with Disney Channel, but the pilot she played did not air.

Notably, Keke Palmer made her first stadium performance with the VH1’s ‘Save the Music Battle' of the High school marching band competition Carson, California on November 18, 2006. Palmer also sang ‘It’s My Turn Now’ and ‘Jumping’ featured in the Disney Channel’s movie, ‘Jump In!’ which she starred as Mary.

The same period, she starred as a pregnant 11-year-old girl on Ludacris and Mary J. Blige’s song, ‘Runaway Love.' She also recorded a song titled, ‘Tonight’ and had a leading role in the film, ‘Akeelah and the Bee' and a supporting role in ‘Madea's Family Reunion.’

In 2007, Keke Palmer played a supporting role in a thriller titled, ‘Cleaner’ alongside Samuel L. Jackson and Eva Mendes. She also had a lead role alongside Corbin Bleu in ‘Jump In!’ and starred in two television programs, ‘Just Jordan’, and ‘Tyler Perry’s House of Payne’.

In 2008, she starred in Nickelodeon sitcom, ‘True Jackson, VP’ where she wrote and performed its theme song. A year later, she approved the clothing of a Walmart fashion line. She also played the leading role of True Jackson, VP, and ‘the Longshots’ alongside Ice Cube and ‘Barbershop 2: Back in Business’.

In 2009, Keke Palmer played the role of Jemma in ‘Shrink’ and signed with Inters cope records where she recorded several songs on her sophomore R&B/ hip-hop album with pop undertones in 2010. In 2011, she released her first mixtape, ‘Awaken’ with the single, ‘The One You Call’ and finished her show, ‘True Jackson, VP.'

By 2012, she starred alongside Dolly Parton and Queen Latifah in ‘Joyful Noise’ and produced and starred in a Nickelodeon musical film titled, ‘Rags.' She also voiced ‘Ice Age: Continental Drift’ and ‘Winx Club’ and released the single, ‘You Got Me’ featuring Kelvin McCall. Additionally, in October, she released a self-titled mixtape, ‘Keke Palmer’ which included already released singles, ‘You Got Me’ and ‘Dance Alone.’

Keke Palmer played the role of Rozanda, ‘Chili’ Thomas in a VH1 biopic, ‘CrazySexyCol: The TLC story in 2013 and released her cover of Alicia Key’s song, ‘If I Aint Got You.' This cover followed her role as Elizabeth Royce Harwood in ‘90210’ and her starring role in a horror film, ‘Animal.' The same period she had a recurring role in season two of ‘Showtime’s Masters of Sex.'

Palmer’s show ‘Just Keke’ premiered on June 30, 2014, where she covers topics such as fashion, social issues, and celebrity interviews. The show had the privilege of performing as the first African-American Cinderella on Broadway and starred in the Fox Horror series, ‘Scream Queens.'

On October 2015, she released her single, ‘I Don’t Belong to You’ followed by ‘Enemiez’ in March 2016. She also unleashed an album she recorded at 16 titled, ‘Waited to Exhale.' Recently on April 21, 2017, she released a new single, ‘Wind Up’ featuring Quavo of Migos. She also starred as Kym on MTV’s television series, ‘Scream.’

Awards and Achievements

In 2005, Keke Palmer won a Screen Actors Guild Awards followed by, Chicago Film Critics Association Award, Black Movie Awards, NAACP Image Awards, and Young Artist Award in 2006. Notably, in 2009, she earned two NAACP Image Awards for her outstanding performance in youth /Children’s series.

Palmer has also received several nominations including, Bet Award nomination in 2011, NAACP Image Awards nominations and Black Reel Award nomination in 2013.
