American actress Kathryn Erbe was born on the 5 July 1965 in Newton, Massachusetts to Richard Erbe and Elisabeth Magnarelli. She has two siblings: Jonathan and Jennifer.
Education
Erbe completed the drama programme at the Tisch School of the Arts, New York University (1989).
Rise to Fame
Kathryn Erbe's acting career started in theatre. She was a member of the Steppenwolf Theater Company in Chicago and featured in many productions including A Streetcar Named Desire, My Thing of Love and Curse of the Starving Class. She also appeared in the stage adaptation of the Steinbeck novel, The Grapes of Wrath. In 1991 she received a Tony Award nomination for Best Actress for her appearance in The Speed of Darkness on Broadway.
Career
Early roles include 12 episodes of the television drama Chicken Soup (1989), Rich in Love (1992) directed by Bruce Beresford, the television film Breathing Lessons (1994) and George Wallace (1997), a television film focusing on an assassination attempt on the governor of Alabama George Wallace. She also starred in Stir of Echoes (1999) alongside Kevin Bacon and Zackary David Cope.
Between 1998 and 2003, Kathryn Erbe portrayed death row inmate Shirley Bellinger in the television series Oz (17 episodes). Erbe became famous for her role of Alexandra Eames in the television crime series Law & Order: Criminal Intent. She portrayed Eames in 144 episodes between 2001 and 2011. She also portrayed Eames in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (2012-2013).
Later Years
Recent work in television includes The Sinner (2017), How to Get Away with Murder (2017-2018) and Pose (2018). She has also appeared in the films Assssination Nation (2018) and the coming of age drama No Alternative (2018). Erbe is a member of the Atlantic Theater Company in New York City.
Awards and Achievements
In 1991, Kathryn Erbe won a Tony Award nomination for her role as Mary in Speed of Darkness. She was also nominated for a 2008 Satellite Award: Best Actress in a Series, Drama for Law & Order: Criminal Intent (2001).

Kathryn Erbe was married to Terry Kinney between 1993 and 2006 and has two children, Elsbeth and Carson.
