Octavia Spencer was born Octavia Lenora Spencer on May 25, 1972, in Montgomery, Alabama, United States. She was born to Mr. Spencer and Dellsena Spencer. She was brought up alongside six siblings. She later joined Jefferson Davis High School. In 1988, she graduated. She then joined Auburn University, Montgomery to pursue English and a double minor in journalism and theatre. She later graduated.

Octavia Spencer started her career as an intern on the onset of the film ‘The Long Walk Home.’ She later moved to Los Angeles.
